ABOUT US
The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Atlanta was organized in December of 1972. It followed from a discussion held by several fanciers at a local match. While the first meeting had only a few people, our membership has now grown to over 100 Scottish Terrier Lovers.
We have successfully promoted the Scottie breed over the years through education, matches, fellowship, and more.
The Two Events that Highlight our Year are Fala Day held in November and The Scottish Terrier Specialty every April.
Objectives
Four principle objectives guide the activities of the club:
Breeding Quality - To encourage quality breeding of pure bred Scottish Terriers such that everything possible is done to perfect their natural qualities.
Breed Standards - To promote the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as being the only standard of excellence by which Scottish Terriers are judged.
Breed Protection - To protect and advance the breed by vigorously encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows.
Sanctioned Shows - To conduct licensed specialty shows as sanctioned by the American Kennel Club.
Services
Newsletter: Our Bagpiper Chatter covers club news, events, births and brags, and articles by and about our members. News from the Newsletter can be found on the News Page of this website.
WebSite: Our Club Website is aptly named stcgatlanta. We chose to change our website name and to put Atlanta back in our website because the metro area has become one of the fastest growing destinations in the country. Now, when new people search the web for clubs in the Atlanta area, the Scottish Terrier Club will pop up in the search engines and newcomers will know about our Scottie Club in the Atlanta area. The website is fast becoming the place to go for the latest information about the stcga.
Education: The STCGA offers education through its meetings, seminars and events. Other resources such as books, video tapes, audio tapes, and pamphlets are also available.
Registry: We offer puppy referral and stud registry services. All referrals or inquiries are directed to the appropriate club members.
Meetings
The STCGA attempts to meet monthly and holds additional meetings at events or other club functions. Contact the STCGA for the current schedule of meetings or click on the Meetings and Programs button. We also now include directions and links to maps each month when our meetings are held at various member homes. So check the website before you leave home and the directions should be up there.
Events
The STCGA holds educational seminars and workshops. The annual STCGA Spring Specialty is recognized as a premier specialty show in the Southeast.
Fala Day is held annually in Warm Springs, Georgia at FDR's Little White House the 1st Saturday in November.
